The year that was saw a string of high profile celebrity divorces that would've deeply benefited from a prenuptial agreement. From golden couple Tom-Kat, to the media circus that was the Kim-Kris split, here's a list of messy 'irreconcilable differences' that hold to ransom a few million bucks
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore
Reports have it, Demi was in for a rude shock when Ashton recently filed for divorce as she was hoping for a lump sum in financial settlement before going to court. Ashton seems to have lost his patience, what with new girlfriend Mila Kunis on his arm and also the fact that his net worth has escalated two fold and he's now the highest paid actor on television.
Earning 24 million in the last year alone (much of it credited to TV series Two and a Half Men), the actor is estimated to be worth a cool 140 million.
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis
If you get 150 million as settlement from a man you weren't even married to, then it can be one of two things: he's lost his marbles; or he feels extremely guilty about his straying ways. Either way, safe to say Johnny Depp's long-time girlfriend and mother of his children, Vanessa Paradis, did not get the shorter end of the stick.
Heidi Klum and Seal
You know what makes a messy divorce? It's when one partner's raking up a cool 70mn (Heidi), and overshadowing the other's comparatively piddly 15mn (Seal). Want to know what makes it even messier? How about the fact that Klum's millions are in serious jeopardy now that Seal's using her rumoured affair with bodyguard Martin Kristen to get half her monies. No settlement here yet!
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
'Settle now, or I will sue', Kim Kardashian seems to be in no mood to let her impending divorce with Kris Humphries drag on for any longer. While Kris is hoping to get more than his share from the prenup, citing that their marriage was fraud and was used by Kim to up her show's ratings, Kim's all set to counteract the law suit with a case of defamation and maligning of character argument. Though the divorce settlement is expected to be final by Feb 2013, what we don't understand is why a woman who's worth 40mn insists on holding on to her 2mn engagement rock, which has somehow become the star highlight of this dramatic divorce.
